Evensong Services at Trinity College Chapel, Cambridge

The Choir of Trinity College Chapel Cambridge

Recently voted the fifth best choir in the world in Gramophone magazine's "20 Greatest Choirs", The Choir of Trinity College Cambridge comprises around thirty Choral Scholars and two Organ Scholars, all of whom are ordinarily undergraduates of the College.  Directors of Music, who are ordinarily Fellows of Trinity College also, have included Charles Villiers Stanford, Alan Gray, Raymond Leppard and Richard Marlow.

Stephen Layton has been Fellow and Director of Music at Trinity College, Cambridge, since 2006.

The College’s choral tradition dates back to the all-male choir of the fourteenth century, when former Chapel Royal choristers studied in King’s Hall which later became part of Trinity College.  In a departure from Cambridge choral chapel music, female voices were introduced in the 1980s by Richard Marlow (b.1939 – d.2013).

During term, the Choir’s main focus is the singing of the liturgy in the College Chapel, which is drawn from both Roman Catholic and Protestant music traditions.  In the main, this takes the form of three weekly Evensong services.  Members of the public are always welcome to attend any of these services in Trinity College Chapel; however, to ensure the widest possible public access, all chapel services are now broadcast live as webcasts, and are then available to stream from the archive to listen to once again.
